Kanamaru claims dominant win in Race one at Paul Ricard

The driver of Emilio de Villota Motorsport took a lights-to-flag win in Race one after clinching the pole position at noon. Simonyan (MKTG) and Rovera (BVM Racing) also claimed spots on the podium
Yu Kanamaru (Emilio de Villota Motorsport) has taken his maiden victory in the Euroformula Open by winning Race one at Paul Ricard, where the second round of the Winter Series is held. Yanamaru had beaten Vítor Baptista (RP Motorsport) to pole position, which was closely-fought one as no less than eleven cars qualified within one second of the pole position time.
When the lights went off, race one got underway with Kanamaru keeping his lead ahead of Russia´s John Simonyan (MKTG), who moved up second ahead of Diego Menchaca (Campos Racing) and Tanart Sathienthirakul (Team West-Tec). Baptista dropped to fifth with Alessio Rovera in sixth place. Behind, Konstantin Tereschenko (Campos Racing) and Yarin Stern (Team West-Tec) made contact and they both were forced to retire.
Setting several fastest laps, Kanamaru slightly pulled away, with Simonyan still running second while, behind, Menchaca was overtaken on the fourth lap, by Sathienthirakul and Baptista. Rovera, just one lap later, also passed Menchaca.
With Kanamaru´s gap widening and Simonyan a solid second as well, third place was closely-fought and Baptista and Rovera overtook Sathienthirakul. With only one lap to go, Rovera made a last effort and takes third from Baptista on the second-to-last lap. So, Kanamaru, Simonyan and Rovera claim podium finishes. Behind Baptista, Sathienthirakul and Menchaca came 4thy, 5th and 6th respectively.
